His journey into knifemaking began under the guidance of Master Smith Neels van den Berg, evolving from a background in automotive work into a disciplined creative pursuit.

Shawn has been refining his skills for over seven years, focusing on styles that blend classic forms with functional intent. He has a particular affinity for stiletto daggers—blades that reflect both his respect for heritage and his growing mastery of the craft. Working primarily with SAE 5160, a versatile and resilient steel, Shawn values materials that match his high standards for durability and performance.

His creative process is hands-on from the first sketch to the final grind. Whether he's profiling raw material, setting precise scribe lines, or shaping plunges with care, each stage is methodical and meaningful. Shawn embraces both hand tools and modern technologies in his workflow, treating each build as a balance of tradition and evolution.

One of his proudest achievements is a hidden tang hunter knife, his first of that style, which he executed with confidence and precision. Shawn’s workshop is rooted in discipline: clean, organized, and focused. His approach reflects a broader belief - craft each knife to the absolute best of your ability.

Shawn is an apprentice with the American Bladesmith Society and an active member of both ABS and the South African Bladesmith Association (SABA). While he continues to work toward formal accolades, his commitment is clear in every edge and handle he finishes.
